New Courses at CHS for the 2026-2027 School Year

Posted on June 10, 2026June 11, 2026 by Arjun Purani

Every year, I feel like I learn about a new course I had never heard of before. This year it was the Astronomy course and also Gardening. Courses I had no idea even existed. Don’t be like me—know the courses that you can put into your schedule.

For the 2026-2027 School Year, seven new courses will be offered at CHS. These  include:

  1. Life, Logic & the Pursuit of Wisdom
    • This is a philosophy course covering formal logic, epistemology, and Western thought. You’ll learn argument structure, common fallacies, and read primary texts from philosophers like Aristotle, Descartes, and Kant. The course ends with you applying philosophy to modern ethical questions.
    • Only available once you complete US 1
  2. AI Literacy & Society
    • This is a course covering how AI works, how models are trained, and how to spot bias, misinformation, and AI-generated content. It explores AI’s impact on social media, healthcare, and the economy, with a specific focus on ethics and critical thinking.
  3. Explorations in Technology*
    • This is a project-based course where you design, build, and test models and prototypes using various tools and materials. The course covers technical drawing, engineering challenges, and product design while building both your teamwork and problem-solving skills.
  4. Explorations in Media*
    • This course is focused on video production and digital photography. It covers essential software, responsible digital use, and editing. You’ll finish the class with your own portfolio of finished photo and/or video work.
  5. Photography
    • In this course, you learn how to shoot in manual mode (exposure, aperture, shutter speed, ISO) and end up developing your eye for composition, lighting, and storytelling. The class’s projects cover portrait, landscape, and close-up photography.
  6. Symphonia*
    • This course is interesting because it is an audition-only ensemble preparing CHS students for pre-professional performances and also our own Chamber Orchestra. The class focuses on advanced repertoire, rehearsals, and developing each person’s own ‘artistry’.
  7. Explorations in Theatre Arts*
    • This is an Intro theatre course for all grade/skill levels. It covers performance basics, improv, technical elements, and group scenes in a low-pressure environment focused on building each performer’s confidence and expressive communication.

*Must be recommended by either the Child Study Team or a department
