Student Spotlight: Teesta Bhola-Shah

Posted on March 8, 2026March 10, 2026 by Lara Paglinawan

The sound of blades cutting across the ice is something Teesta knows well. As a member of the Bravo Theater on Ice skating team, she dedicates hours to practicing routines that combine synchronized skating with storytelling and performance. With competition season starting soon, skating continues to be one of the biggest parts of her life outside the classroom.

But Teesta’s interests extend beyond the rink. She describes herself as a hardworking and creative person who enjoys writing and learning new things. “I really try to do my best in everything I do, and I think I have a strong work ethic,” she said. While she admits procrastination can sometimes be a challenge, she is focused on improving her study habits this year and staying more disciplined with schoolwork. “I procrastinate sometimes, but I really want to maintain my grades this year and make sure I’m getting eight hours of sleep every night,” she explained.

Academically, two of her favorite classes are AP World History and Spanish. She enjoys learning about different civilizations in AP World and appreciates the global perspective the course offers. She also likes the memorization aspect of the class. “It’s a very chill class. It’s a lot of memorization and taking notes, which are two things I’m good at,” she said. Spanish is another highlight of her day, especially because of the supportive classroom environment created by her teacher, Señora Fix.

Outside of school, Teesta stays busy with a wide range of activities. She plays clarinet in the band and participates in the marching band as well. She is also an intern for TAPinto Chatham, where she brings her journalism expertise outside of school. In addition, she volunteers as a coach with the New Jersey Special Olympics skating team, helping younger athletes build their confidence and skills on the ice.

When she does have time to relax, Teesta enjoys reading fantasy novels and is currently working her way through Game of Thrones. She also likes hiking with her family, spending time with friends, and listening to music.

Her accomplishments already reflect her dedication. Teesta has earned multiple impressive accolades, including Scholastic Gold Keys for writing, being the 2024 New Jersey Mock Trial Courtroom Reporter winner, and competing on a nationally ranked figure skating team that hopes to qualify for international competition. She also leads her marching band as drum major.

Looking ahead, Teesta is considering studying something pre-law related in college, though journalism remains one of her biggest passions. For now, she continues to balance academics and her extracurriculars, while making the most of her high school experience.
