On February 13, 2025, Chatham High School held its first-ever Spirit Day featuring a pep rally—an event that brought students and teachers together for a day of excitement, competition, and school pride. The gymnasium buzzed with energy as loud music set the tone for an action-packed afternoon.
Students from each grade level—freshmen (Class of 2028), sophomores (Class of 2027), juniors (Class of 2026), and seniors (Class of 2025)—volunteered to compete in a variety of fun and challenging races and contests. The competition was structured with the seniors facing off against the juniors, while the sophomores battled the freshmen. In a thrilling display of teamwork, the seniors bested the juniors, and the sophomores triumphed over the freshmen.
Participants engaged in an assortment of events, including a life-sized game of Hungry Hungry Hippos, scooter races, basketball challenges, and even a round of teacher musical chairs. The stakes were high, as the victorious class earned 50 points toward the coveted end-of-year party. The enthusiasm was contagious, with both students and teachers joining in on the fun.
One of the standout moments of the day was the teacher musical chairs event, where Coach Murphy claimed victory for the sophomores, securing bragging rights for the Class of 2027. Reflecting on the experience, sophomore Anya Rodrigo Candappa shared, “I thought it was a great experience that united our whole grade, especially when Murph pulled off that win.” Fellow sophomore Alice Boggis added, “It was fun, it was a good show of school spirit.”
With students and faculty embracing the event, CHS hopes to make Spirit Day an annual tradition. Let’s keep fostering school pride for years to come!
