For senior Regan David, joining the school newspaper, the CHS Chronicle, has helped her find a place to be creative alongside her peers. “I joined my junior year since I wanted to practice my writing and work with like-minded peers,” she explains. That decision soon led to a leadership role, as she was asked over the summer to step into the position of co-editor. “I gladly took the position since I love this club so much!”
Her favorite piece so far has been one that hits close to home: an article covering the new Film Club, which happens to be run by some of her best friends. “It’s been really fun to learn about this new project they’ve been working on,” Regan said.
As co-editor, she encourages anyone considering the newspaper to participate! “It’s such an amazing group of people and I love to write for it in general.” Beyond strengthening her writing, journalism has taught Regan valuable skills she knows that will stick with her in the future. “I’ve learned how to approach people to ask them about the topic I’m writing about and how to find resources for my articles,” she shared.
High school has been full of memorable experiences for Regan, with Cougar Weekend standing out as a recent highlight. Looking back, she also points to teachers who have shaped her journey. “Mrs. Cordano helped me so much during my sophomore year. Algebra 2A got the best of me, but she helped me conquer the class and supported me in getting my 504 plan, which has made a big difference in my academic performance.”
Among her favorite classes have been AP US History and AP Psychology. Looking ahead, her plans after graduation include going to college, earning a degree, and seeing where life takes her. “Ideally, something in writing,” she says of her career aspirations. “I don’t know if that will be in a creative space or in journalism yet, but absolutely, I see myself continuing with writing, journalism, or media in the future.”
As she enters her final year of high school, Regan is excited to make the most of every moment. “I’m most looking forward to having one final year to make memories with everyone,” she said, excited for her senior year. A fun fact that not many people know? She’s a Girl Scout currently working on her Gold Award.
When asked to describe herself in three words, she was quick with it: “Witty, resourceful, receptive.”
We asked Regan what her advice to her freshman self would be, and she answered: “It’s all going to be ok, and surround yourself with people who make you feel good.”
