Movie Review – To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

Everyone has a comfort movie that they rewatch anytime, anywhere! For me, that’s always been To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. Even though it came out years ago, the movie can never get boring. It’s an amazing movie with the perfect kind of chaotic plot.

Well, imagine if your private, embarrassing thoughts, like the ones you tell your best friend or write in a diary, were suddenly mailed to every person you’ve ever had a crush on. For the protagonist, Lara Jean Covey, this situation becomes a reality and completely changes her life. For good, obviously. LJ, short for Lara Jean, is an introvert who writes letters, not to send them, but to deal with her feelings, which she has a tough time getting rid of. When those letters were mailed, it was like her backup plan failed, and to stop it from getting worse, she entered a fake dating contract with Peter Kavinsky (the popular guy). They both, at the time, were trying to protect themselves from their recent heartbreak. Well, the real climax is not an embarrassing moment, or a rainy confession, it’s the moment LJ realizes that to her, fake feelings are easier to handle since they cant break your heart.

Watching both of them go from “just faking it” to actually dating each other and figuring out high school and college together throughout the sequel feels so satisfying! And to tie it up perfectly, after those three movies, there’s XO KITTY as a sequel, which follows LJ’s sisters’ high school coming of age as well. The visuals- The end of the film is going to leave you all checking your mailbox and wondering why your life isn’t teal and pink coded.

Hence, the show feels never-ending and comforting, as if you’re watching the Covey sisters grow up and go through life with you.

Apart from the romance, the Covey family always stays together. Yes, you are going to stop the show at least 10 times from embarrassment or cringing at the  TV from time to time, but in the end, you’re going to be smiling to yourself and missing watching it for the first time as soon as it ends. The movie is definitely worth watching.

So if it’s been in your watch list or continue watching list for months, give it a play right now! It’s a beautifully written story. Watching this in high school is the perfect timing; you will feel like you’re going through high school with LJ, and at the same time, you feel like you’re just going through life with her. It’s the perfect movie to watch, and having 3 of them? To me, that sounds like a perfect binge-watching marathon!

Rating? 10/10 obviously.
