It’s that time of year again. Every high schooler is prepping and waiting for it anxiously. It’s . . . Earth Week!
Yes, perhaps in the midst of a hectic school year, among AP testing, final exams, and a deadly pandemic, Earth Week has slipped your mind. But never fear, because the Green Team is on the case. To celebrate Earth week this year, they’ve created a huge installation for CHS students and staff to walk through, looking at the future and all that lies ahead for us.
Creative minds throughout CHS have come together to collaborate on this project. Naomi Boyd and Cate Hackett led the initiative, coming up with the design and coordinating the process. Following a rainbow theme, each panel will be a different color and focus on a separate time period. As you walk through the installation, beginning with modern-day, you’ll see how our society can adapt over time to become a more sustainable, beautiful place to live. Detailing the challenges we face right now, it outlines a potential timeline and realistic solutions to overcome them.
The purpose of the installation is to show how a more sustainable world is possible and encourage students to think outside the box and become champions of this better world. It will provide feasible changes that you can make in your daily life to create that world, from analyzing the cost of fast fashion to better recycling practices. More than that, though, you’ll realize that sustainability is interconnected. In a truly green community, every aspect of our lives has a positive relationship with our environment. By the end, you’ll get a glimpse of this brilliant future.
It’ll make you angry! It’ll make you excited! And hopefully, it’ll inspire you to look at the world and our impact on it in a new light, to become a catalyst for change in our community and the globe.
So check it out! Green Team members will be in the lobby on Wednesday and Thursday after school to present and discuss the installation. And for those who need extra motivation to spend more time in school than absolutely necessary, they’ll be giving out Starbursts in true Green Team style to anyone who stops by.
