As a relatively well-known affliction that millions of Americans are diagnosed with every year, cancer is a relentless disease that inflicts as much emotional pain as it does physically. In valiant efforts to combat this deadly medical condition, a group of students at Chatham High School, known as the Students Against Cancer (SAC) club, have recently taken it upon themselves to fundraise yet again for the worthy cause.
Throughout the year, SAC can be found to hold various events to monetarily support the American Cancer Society. This school year, the group has already organized “Cookies for Jackie Erb,” a cookie sale to finance a care package for Jackie Erb, and a Valentine’s Day Hearts event to support the American Cancer Society, among others. Coming up this June, the club will also be hosting a large Relay for Life event to honor those with cancer, and strongly encourage all to participate.
Relay for Life at Chatham each year is a full day of activities and ceremonies that aims to fundraise while paying tribute to patients. Participants will partake in enjoyable activities, donate, and walk around the track to show that the fight against cancer is ongoing. Individuals or teams are encouraged to sign up at relayforlife.org by clicking on the link, searching Chatham Relay, and then joining the Chatham Students Against Cancer Team. The club hopes to see several or more teams from CHS sign up for the event, and can’t wait to see everyone there on Saturday, June 5th, 2021 at Cougar Field.
If the club itself is also of interest to you, all students are welcome to join. Other upcoming fundraisers that the group plans to organize include the purple bracelet sale (purchased through either Grace Torterella or Katherine Carraciolo) and Bunny in a Box.
