Winter Cougar Weekend

Monday, February 2nd, 2015

Any student who hears the words “Cougar Weekend” will immediately reminisce to the soccer teams triumphant win over Delbarton in overtime. Very few students, except for those in Pep Club and sports enthusiasts, are even aware that there are Cougar Weekends for both winter and spring sports seasons as well. This years “Winter Cougar Weekend” was set for the weekend of January 21-24 and each of the winter sports teams would have competitions at home for fans to support. The idea of a Cougar Weekend is to culminate school spirit (aided by the pep clubs 3rd spirit week) and give the sports teams a chance to display their talents in front of home crowds.

The weekend activities began on Wednesday the 21st as the Winter Track Boys and Girls teams competed at Drew University for the Morris County Championships. The following day, both the Boys and Girls Swim Teams faced off against county-rival Mendham at the Morris Union Juncture Pool. Also on Thursday, the bowling and fencing teams competed at their respective home courts as well. The highlight of this year’s Winter Cougar Weekend came on Friday night when our Ice Hockey team took down fierce, highly-ranked rival Morristown-Beard. With a large student section, the hockey team was thrilled to bring home a in for their fans.

Sadly, all Saturday competitions were cancelled due to the overnight snowfall we received. The wrestling team had a tri-match against New Brunswick, Princeton, and Pingry. Meanwhile, the basketball team’s 7pm game against The Visions Academy (a Charter School in Newark) was also cancelled.
