It’s hard to say what exactly kicked off the cupcake craze in the past decade. Perhaps it all started with “Sex and the City” featuring Magnolia Bakery (in the late ‘90s) as the place where friends went to devour the little treats. Over the past few years, gourmet cupcakes have been on the rise, with cupcake shops popping up all over cities in the U.S. And now, Chatham has its own “urban cupcake” shop.  On March 9, Mr. Cupcakes on Main Street celebrated its grand opening. Over 150 people attended, with a line stretching down the block. Owner and founder Johnny Manganiotis ceremoniously cut the ribbon, making this his fourth store—his other three are in Bergen County. As Manganiotis told Independent Press, “I wanted a town in Morris County, and after spending time in Chatham, I really like the town.” He asserts that just like the town, his company is “very family oriented.” The owner also admires Chatham’s support of local merchants. But most importantly, the cupcakes are only $1.50 each! With savory varieties including Red Velvet, French Toast, Oreo Cheesecake, and Fruity Pebbles—and limited delicacies such as Rocky Road, Tiramisu, and Cannoli—this will surely become your new favorite stop for dessert.
