Living in New Jersey is an epitome of the east coast. A sign of this is not the Jersey Shore, the crazy roads, or the commute to New York City. There seems to be a Dunkin' Donuts around every corner, averaging to one to three franchises per town. Dunkin' Donuts was the definition of the East Coast for a very long time, rarely competing with it’s west coast competitor, Krispy Kreme. To an outsider one sells glazed and jelly donuts while the other sells jelly and glazed doughnuts, but there are clear cultural differences that have affected the product. Dunkin' Donuts, along with the questionable yet purposeful spelling, sells itself as small, quick, and convenient coffee shop. Krispy Kreme focuses on limited exposure and larger stores where a customer can take a tour of the Doughnut Factory and watch their doughnuts being made. This is why Krispy Kreme doughnuts are considered to be the lesser of the two evils in terms of nutrition for they are usually freshly made in store. It is is clear that marketing strategies differ in other ways too. Dunkin' Donuts boasts over twice as many options to choose from including other breakfast items while Krispy Kreme focuses on the doughnuts. In terms of who makes a better tasting doughnut, the decision is up to you.

As Krispy Kreme begins “invading” Dunkin' Donuts’ territory by moving more stores to the East Coast, Chatham High School’s student council is announcing the annual Krispy Kreme fundraiser. Selling doughnuts from the new Krispy Kreme in Jersey City which specializes in working with schools and other fundraisers, students now have the opportunity to order a single doughnut for $1 or or a dozen doughnuts for $10. This fundraiser was started two years ago by the student council class of 2020, and this year the funds will go to the freshman student council. The store itself is located in the heart of Jersey City and is usually open until 10:00 or 11:00 pm. There are three flavors to choose from, including Chocolate Iced, Glazed Raspberry Jelly Filled, and the classic and well-known Regular Glazed doughnut. Orders start on PayForIt from February 4th to February 20th, and delivery is on February 28th in room A131 after school.
