Hollywood Awards
Winter is awards season in the world of pop culture. Each year, ceremonies like the Grammy Awards, the Golden Globes, and the Academy Awards attract millions of television viewers, annually.

The Grammy Awards commemorate the biggest and best musical pieces of the year. The awards show features live music from nominated artists and other performers, ranging from Jay-Z to Ringo Starr. There are various awards given out, but the biggest and most heavily contended awards are Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Album of the Year. For the 2014 ceremony, French duo Daft Punk swept the awards clean, taking home five, including Record and Album of the Year for "Get Lucky" and Random Access Memories. New Zealander, Lorde, won the award for song of the year for "Royals."

The Golden Globes are one of Hollywood's biggest movie awards ceremonies. Celebrating both T.V. and film, the Golden Globes are widely respected. The 71st annual Golden Globes celebrated/awarded films/T.V. shows from 2013. The best drama picture went to 12 Years a Slave, while the best comedy went to American Hustle. Regarding television, the best drama went to the hugely popular cult show Breaking Bad, which ended last year. Famed actor, Leonardo DiCaprio, won his second Golden Globe after having nine nominations since 1994.

The Academy Awards, the biggest awards show of the season, airs in March. The ‘best' films of the year are nominated for multiple awards. Many see an Academy Award as a symbol of Hollywood greatness-"if a movie wins an Academy Award, then is must be good." This year, dozens of films are on the docket. Two films, American Hustle, and Gravity have 10 award nominations, while 12 Years a Slave is a runner up with 9. Other nominated films include The Wolf of Wall Street, Nebraska, Captain Phillips, Philomena, and Her.
