Fall Fashion Week 2012

Monday, September 24th, 2012
Fall is finally here, and what better way to start the season than to see all the latest fashion trends for next spring? Mercedes Benz Fashion Week hosted designers ranging from Vera Wang to Abby Dawn from September 5th to the 13th.  These designers showcased the new trends for Spring 2013 that you should be sure to look out for.
Sheer tops are definitely in style as both Rachel Zoe and Nanette Lepore modeled a sheer loose tee and a sheer black blouse. Crop tops are also in as Charlotte Ronson flaunted a black crop top. Lace and stripes were huge this Fashion Week, as displayed by Jill Stuart, Walter Baker, Michael Kors, and Tommy Hilfiger. As for colors, black and white were popular in Carmen Marc Valvo’s line, while Angel Sanchez went with large blocks of color. Rachel Zoe showcased another memorable piece during her runway show: a white sequined mini dress that caught the eye of every viewer.
Fashion Week also showcased a little bit of foreign influence in the designers’ collections. When Vera Wang’s models walked down the runway on September 11th, everyone couldn’t help but notice that there was subtle touch of Indian couture in each of her outfits. These outfits consisted of choli jackets, Nehru collars, delicate braided lace embroidery, golden epaulettes and sleek, collarless jackets.

Rodarte took a different approach with their line, choosing a blast from the past with a modern twist. Leather pants on bodices paired with organza dresses and beautiful silk blouses. When asked what their inspiration was for the line, Laura and Kate Mulleavy replied that it was medieval games.
Stacy Bendent, the designer for Alice and Olivia, took some inspiration from the past too, just not as long ago. Her line was full of feminine silhouettes, bustiers, halter dresses, and flared skirts. It just screamed 1950’s. And last but not least, Calvin Klein’s Spring Line was on the last day of fashion week. Francisco Costa displayed pale silks edged in darker colors and plenty of cocktail gowns. Costa cited his inspiration as “urban femininity”. With celebrities like Emma Stone and Amy Adams sitting front row, the Calvin Klein Spring 2013 line was a great way to end fashion week.
