As the winter sports season begins to wind down here at CHS, each day becomes more and more crucial for each team. The weekend of February 19th was a big one for Chatham sports, as the hockey, basketball, boy's and girl's winter track, and swimming teams faced elimination or competed in finals.

The hockey team faced off against hockey power-house Morristown-Beard in the "Mennen Cup." Details about the game and tournament can be found in Michael Mulford's article in this month's issue.

The basketball team matched up with Morristown High School in the semi-finals of the Morris County Tournament on Saturday. The game originally scheduled for a 5 pm tip-off was moved up to noon with fear of an impending snowstorm. The Cougars played at the County College of Morris, and played outstandingly. They dominated the pace of the game by taking advantage of their overwhelming size in the front court with juniors Colin McKenna and Stefan Goles along with sophomore John Burkard. McKenna lead the Cougars with 17 points and senior Graham Delaney was looked to for clutch 3-pointers and a senior presence on the court.

Some members of the boy's and girl's winter track teams competed this weekend for their respective New Jersey Meets of Champions. The 4x4 team shattered their own school record set earlier this year by 3 seconds in the sectional meet! The team consists of Steve Bondurich, Harris Eisenhardt, Nick Ferrone and Kevin Gesell.

One of the highlights of the weekend was the Chatham girl's swim team bringing home a 5th consecutive NJSIAA Public C state championship. The team has transformed into a superpower under Coach Frank DiGiacomo, blending a wonderful mix of young talent and veteran leadership. The team started this year in fear without the leadership and skill of last year's stacked senior class, however, they proved anyone who marked this year as a rebuilding year wrong this weekend!
