Even though they seem to be the low men on the totem pole because they are the youngest, freshmen athletes have been making a big impact on different sports team each year. Last year, it was Scarlett Blydenburgh winning practically every match she could for girl's tennis, and Timmy Adams vamping up special teams for football, among others who made contributions to multiple different teams.

Any student who hears the words “Cougar Weekend” will immediately reminisce to the soccer teams triumphant win over Delbarton in overtime. Very few students, except for those in Pep Club and sports enthusiasts, are even aware that there are Cougar Weekends for both winter and spring sports seasons as well. This years “Winter Cougar Weekend” was set for the weekend of January 21-24 and each of the winter sports teams would have competitions at home for fans to support.

Considering the team was only formed this year, the Chatham-Madison girls ice hockey winning record to date is quite impressive. Consisting of experienced and rookie players from each of the schools, these “Chatison” girls are pioneers for the community.

“Our first win was against Newark East Side, and we won 8-1,” recalls sophomore right wing Daniella Groh. “It was pretty cool, you know? We made history.”

The Chatham swim team is looking forward to yet another successful season. Notorious for consistent wins, Chaswim is currently practicing diligently and looking forward to their first meet, according to senior captain Tyler Botsford. Both the boys and girls teams had impressive records last year, with the boys winning their section and the girls losing only one meet. Of course, this one loss was the end of a five-year undefeated streak.

April 1st came around, commencing the start of Spring Sports. There was rain predicted that day, but it held off until most of the 4pm games were finished. Now, it is April 8th the last day before Spring Break, the first day of 4th Marking Period and it feels like it hasn’t stopped raining. Spring Sports are also in full swing, so let’s see how they have been doing so far.

All families in Chatham understand the competition in Chatham when it comes to lacrosse. Many boys and girls grow up with a passion for lacrosse, along with a love for their teammates. By the time students reach CHS, goals have been set. For many of those students, a goal for them is to play lacrosse in high school, or make varsity.

The temperature is slowly rising and the snow is finally starting to melt, which means that winter sports seasons are coming to a close. People are trading hockey sticks for lacrosse sticks, basketball sneakers for cleats, and heading out to the baseball field rather than staying in the pool.

As quickly as 3, 2, 1, the Chatham men’s ice hockey season was over. Chatham was eliminated from further playoff contention in the NJSIAA Public B state tournament with a 2- 1 loss to rival Morristown.

Although the loss was heartbreaking for the Cougar squad, there is much to celebrate about their 2014 campaign.

For those not familiar with this term, it refers to the frenzy that is the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
