This month the Chronicle will spotlight these two seniors to get an inside scoop of what it takes to start an extracuriclar activity at CHS and get to know more about their high school experiences as a whole.

The start of the spring sports season at CHS was quite hectic due to the inclimate weather and lingering snow piles. Cougar and Haas fields were closed which displaced our boys and girls lacrosse teams, forcing many of our spring sports teams to share early practice time on the only clear turf field, Lum. After a few weeks, all the snow was gone and spring sports were back on track in Chatham.

Any student who hears the words “Cougar Weekend” will immediately reminisce to the soccer teams triumphant win over Delbarton in overtime. Very few students, except for those in Pep Club and sports enthusiasts, are even aware that there are Cougar Weekends for both winter and spring sports seasons as well. The idea of a referendum is not new to the School District of the Chathams, but recent proposals have caught the ears of faculty and taxpayers alike. Our district’s last referendum dates back to 2005 and totaled at $27 million. This year, the Board of Education and Superintendent LaSusa have put forth a proposal that could amount to just under $28 million. The referendum will fund 6 additions/improvements: 1. Considering that the spring season started with snow on the ground, the spring sports teams have come a long way to finally be able to play in shorts and a t-shirt. Now that it is the end of April, it is a good time to catch up with each boys' team and see how their seasons are going up to this point.

March may mean many different things for different people. For some it’s the end of winter and beginning of spring; for many students at CHS it means the start of the spring sports season. For over 50 million Americans, it means March Madness.

For those not familiar with this term, it refers to the frenzy that is the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
